  15. INSTALLATION
  16. ------------
  17. The installation utility provided (INSTALL.EXE) will install Professional
  18. Carrier on your hard disk drive, and will also check to see that your system 
  19. meets all of the program requirements. Simply insert the registered version 
  20. disk (Disk #1 if there are 2 disks) into your floppy disk drive, type 
  21. A:INSTALL (or B:INSTALL), and press the [ENTER] key.
  22.  
  23. IF: you have been using a previous version of *THIS* product, you should 
  24.     install this version into the *same* subdirectory that you installed 
  25.     the previous version. This will allow this newer version to properly 
  26.     update your existing files while still maintaining any existing data 
  27.     that you have already entered.
  28.  
  29. IF: you have been using our Paper Route Ledger program, and are upgrading to 
  30.     this program, you *SHOULD NOT* install this program into the same sub- 
  31.     directory as your existing PRL files. You should install this program 
  32.     into its own, separate subdirectory. See the "Upgrading Instructions" 
  33.     contained in the manual, or supplied separately.

  35. Since we may have changed the "default" installation directory during our 
  36. update process, be sure to check this carefully when the installation 
  37. program asks you for the subdirectory to install to.
  38.

  40. **** IMPORTANT ***
  41.  
  42. The following system parameters should already be properly set from your 
  43. evaluation of the shareware version of Professional Carrier. However, just 
  44. as a reminder......
  45.     
  46. You will need to check the FILES and BUFFERS settings in your CONFIG.SYS 
  47. file (the install program will check this, and give you the opportunity to 
  48. modify it you want to).  If you don't already have at least 40 FILES and 40 
  49. BUFFERS, please change these lines accordingly (or let the installation 
  50. program do it for you):

  52.         FILES=40
  53.         BUFFERS=40
  54.  
  55. Also, your AUTOEXEC.BAT file must contain the following line:
  56.  
  57.         SET CLIPPER=F45
  58.  
  59. (the "F" value in the above SET command should always be "5" more than the 
  60. FILES= setting. For example, if you have FILES=60, then the SET statement 
  61. should be SET CLIPPER=F65)
  62.  
  63. If you don't allow the install program to make any necessary modifications, 
  64. then you will need to make the changes manually.

  66. Either way, if there are any changes made, you will need to reboot your 
  67. system in order for these changes to take effect.
